About Us

When our communities lack the resources to appropriately and adequately care for our youth, their safety, permanence, and well-being undoubtedly become the community’s responsibility. No single individual or organization can meet this extraordinarily complex challenge alone.

The S.O.U.L. Foundation (Shaping Our Urban Leaders) was founded in 1998 as a result of several individuals having a desire to contribute to the well-being of our community’s youth through community service, education, and charitable contributions. They were highly motivated by seeing the need for various programs throughout the community that would provide young citizens with the skills needed to become productive and successful members of society, with an emphasis on programs promoting educational, social, and athletic opportunities.

The group’s vision was to contribute to the continual growth and success of our children, hence forming the foundation and being committed to developing integrity, self-discipline, and character within our young citizens through educational programs, health and wellness initiatives, and social and athletic opportunities.

Even though the S.O.U.L. Foundation has spent several years working toward these commitments, it was only in 2003 that we acquired 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. Although we are recognized as a fairly new organization, our founder and those he chose to collaborate with to help him pursue his mission are dedicated to these initiatives and strongly support the organization, its vision, and commitment to serve the community.
